Vegan Taco Pizza

I love pizza. Next to Mexican food, it is my favorite thing to eat. I remember growing up and going to a local pizza place that had a taco pizza and I loved it. When I decided to try to make pizza, I knew I just had to make my own taco pizza as it combines my 2 favorite foods. I had no idea how they made the ones when I was younger, but I wanted mine to be like a taco, so I started from there. I think I did pretty good and it ended up being quite tasty.

Vegan Taco Pizza

Yield: 8-10 slices

What you will need:

  • homemade pizza dough or store bought if you prefer

  • 1 can of refried beans or homemade if you prefer like I do.

  • 1 cup of TVP, re-hydrated

  • 2 packets of Mrs. Dash salt free taco seasoning

  • 1 small can of tomato paste

  • 1.5 cups of vegan shredded cheddar cheese, I use my "Shreddable Cheddar-Style Cheese"

  • 1 cup of red onions, diced

  • 1/2 cup jalapeno slices

  • 2 green onions, diced

  • 1 roma tomato, diced

  • 1/2 cup cilantro, diced

  • 1/2 cup black olives

How to Make The Vegan Taco Pizza:

  1. I like to use my homemade sourdough pizza crust. However, you can use any that you want. Just make sure it covers the pizza pan you will be using.

  2. Preheat your oven to 350*F.

  3. Mix the refried beans with a little of the tomato paste plus 1 of the packets of Mrs Dash salt free taco seasoning and stir well. It will loosen up the beans and become spreadable. Add more tomato paste as needed to get to a thick, yet spreadable consistency. Then add 1/4 cup of cilantro and stir that in good.

  4. To the re-hydrated TVP add 1 packet of the Mrs Dash salt free taco seasoning, and mix well.

  5. With your dough already covering your pizza pan/tray, spoon on and spread the refried bean mixture until it covers the entire dough, except for a 1 inch or so ring around it (as seen in the pictures above).

  6. Put on the TVP. Then some red onion and black olives.

  7. Toss on the shredded cheese, making sure you get good coverage.

  8. Bake it for 12-15 minutes, depending on your oven.

  9. Once it is done baking, top it with the diced tomato, sliced jalapenos, black olives, green onions and the rest of the cilantro.

  10. Cut into slices and enjoy!

Serving Suggestion: You can also top this with a drizzle of vegan sour cream, thin sliced avocado and shredded lettuce if you would like.
