Growing up I was never really a BBQ sauce fan. Maybe it was just a sign that I would eventually become vegan because most of the things I associate BBQ sauce with is having it slathered on "charred mammal flesh"... no thanks!
As I got older I realized that on the right thing, and there are lots of things when it comes to Vegan cooking that you can use BBQ sauce on, it is amazing!
Ken's BBQ Sauce
Servings: About 4 Cups
What you will need:
2 15oz cans of low sodium tomato sauce
1 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
2/3 Cup Honey or Agave
1/2 cup low sodium tomato paste
1/2 cup molasses
4 tsp liquid smoke
2 tsp smoked paprika
2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp onion powder
2 tsp cayenne (optional or add to taste)
How to Make It:
Combine all the ingredients and whisk until well combined in a small to medium saucepan.
Allow to cook over a medium high heat until it starts to simmer. Lower the heat down to medium low and simmer for about 15 minutes or until the sauce reaches your preferred thickness. Do not cover, as you will need to allow the steam to escape so it will thicken up. You can use a wire mesh covering to reduce possible splattering.
Once it is done, serve immediately, or allow it to cool and place in an airtight container to store in the fridge where it will stay good for 1-2 weeks.
